Un "thriller" de ciencia ficción en el cual Buenos Aires se transforma en el Alphaville de los años '90, con claros ecos de laberintos borgianos. La acción comienza cuando un tren del metro con más de veinte pasajeros desaparece en el circuito cerrado de las vías subterráneas de Buenos Aires. El oficial a cargo, incapaz de ofrecer explicación alguna a las autoridades ni los parientes de los pasajeros desaparecidos, recurre a la empresa que diseñó el sistema. Se inicia una búsqueda angustiosa dirigida por un joven topólogo, a partir de ciertos mapas y datos técnicos que va reuniendo poco a poco. No puede averiguar el paradero del viejo científico que diseñó la intricada trama de la red del metro hasta que el inesperado auxilio de una niña le facilita el hallazgo de las primeras pistas. Todo parece que va a resultar inútil cuando, por una circunstancia fortuita en la que casi pierde la vida, se introduce en un tren que marcha a una velocidad inverosímil y allí se enfrenta con la sorprendente revelación final. Este film es un genuino esfuerzo colectivo, llevado a cabo por un grupo de 41 estudiantes de la Escuela de Cine Manuel Antín, llamado el Colectivo de la Universidad del Cine, bajo la dirección del profesor Gustavo Mosquera (Lo que vendrá). Los estudiantes comparten e intercambian sus trabajos (había cinco directores y seis escritores) burlándose del orden normal de los títulos de crédito. Realizada con un presupuesto mínimo, el filme sorprende por su estilo e imaginación. |
MOEBIUS A science-fiction thriller in which Buenos Aires becomes the Alphaville of the 90s, with clear echoes of Borges' labyrinths. The action gets going when a train of the metro subway system, with more than 20 passengers aboard, disappears in the closed circuit of the underground in Buenos Aires. The official in charge, unable to offer any explanation to the authorities nor the relatives of the banished passengers, asks for the help of the firm that designed the system. An anguished search gets underway under the direction of a topologist, based on certain maps and technical information that he manages to gather gradually. But the professional cannot find the whereabouts of an old scientist who designed the intricate network of the underground railways, until the unexpected collaboration of a young girl brings him the first clues. His efforts seem to be going nowhere when, by a fortuitous twist of events, which nearly cost him his life, he jumps into a train which travels at an impossible speed, and there he confronts the surprising final revelation. This film is a genuine collective effort, brought to completion by a group of 41 students of the Manuel Antín Film School, called the Film School Collective, under the direction of professor Gustavo Mosquera (What Is to Come). The students share and exchange their work (there were five directors and six screenwriters), laughing off the normal scheme of technical credits. Produced with a minimal budget, the film displays a surprising style and creative imagination. |
