Eric has been a policeman in Stockholm for many years. After a brutal incident, he decides to move back with his brother in his home town, located in the usually peaceful northern area of Sweden. Eric is given a hero's welcome by his old friends. However, he discovers that much has changed in his absence. His big city police attitude does not fit in with his present surroundings. Many unwritten laws work against him. When he investigates the area's hunters, he learns that many of his friends are involved in criminal activity. Eric becomes everyone's enemy, and his home the most dangerous spot in the world. This extraordinary thriller takes off from the subject of illegal hunting, to reveal the evil influences which are ruining the community. Actor Rolf Lassgard portrays with great sobriety the solitary cop who stirs up the network of cover-up and corruption permeating all tiers of society. Lageroos' photography is a great asset, with its rhythmic combination of light and shadows. The psychological development of the characters is perfect. And the filmmaker delivers a riveting climax that provides just the right closure for the movie. This great suspense film works at various levels: familiar drama, revealing and unnerving study of social corruption, marvelous crime meller. To those who think Swedish film is merely existentialist drama about the silence of God, the elements of action and violence in The Hunters will take them by surprise. Sundvall's thriller ranks with the best American films of its genre. |

Kjell Sundvall Nació en Alvsbyn, Suecia en 1953. Graduado del Instituto Dramático de Estocolmo en 1977. Trabajó en la TV sueca en varias capacidades. Dirigió cortos, documentales, dramas y episodios. Anteriormente ha dirigido los largometrajes Lyckanf Ost, I Lagens Namn.
