AL CORAZON Usted puede que no sea un amante del tango, del cine argentino o del cine en general, pero aún así, Al corazón es una película muy difícil de resistir. Deliciosa, entretenida, no es meramente un documental alrededor del tango, es una recreación de todo un mundo, de un cine y del alma musical de un pueblo. Nostálgica sí. Es más, es un tanto evocadora de That's Entertainment!, el tributo a los musicales de la Metro, en el uso similar de una serie de secuencias musicales de la historia del cine argentino para ilustrar su tema de que el tango es la expresión musical más importante de dicho pueblo. Los legendarios Enrique Cadícamo y Ernesto Sábato (junto a Sergio Renán y Adriana Varela), aparecen como los anfitriones que inclusive estrenan en esta película composiciones propias. El director Mario Sábato ha estructurado este tributo montando escenas y canciones de distintas películas siguiendo una agrupación temática: la seducción, la mujer/prostituta del tango, el choque de los niños bien y los compadritos. Y casi por naturaleza propia emerge la historia del cine musical argentino: Carlos Gardel, Hugo del Carril, Luis Sandrini -- hasta Eva Perón en un par de breves escenas -- y por supuesto Libertad Lamarque. Todos perfilan ante nosotros entonando bellísimas melodías. La forma en que Sábato ha dividido el material es simple y entretenida, con un montaje que sabe sacarle el máximo de partido al rico material de archivo para ilustrar sus puntos. El tango es una música muy emotiva, que llega al corazón, y esto es precisamente lo que Al corazón hace con su audiencia. Les aseguro que saldrán tarareando del cine.

TO THE HEART You may not be a lover of the tango, Argentinean films or movies in general, but even so, To the Heart will be very difficult to resist. Delicious, entertaining, not merely a documentary about the tango, it is rather a recreation of an entire world, a national cinema and the musical soul of a people. Nostalgic it is. What is more, it is quite reminiscent of That's Entertainment!, the tribute to the big movie musicals produced by Metro, in its similar use of a series of musical scenes from the history of Argentinean cinema to illustrate its thematic message that the tango is the most important musical expression of the nation. Legends Enrique Cadícamo and Ernesto Sábato (together with Sergio Renán and Adriana Varela) appear as hosts who even play brand new compositions for the first time in the film. Director Mario Sábato has structured this homage by editing scenes and songs from various films following a thematic approach: seduction, the hooker in the tango, the clash between the pretty rich boys and the guys from the lower neighborhood gangs. And almost by its own weight emerges the story of the Argentinean musical film: Carlos Gardel, Hugo del Carril, Luis Sandrini -- even Eva Perón in a couple of brief scenes -- and of course, Libertad Lamarque. They all show us their famous profiles while they belt out the most beautiful melodies. The manner in which Sábato has presented the material is simple and entertaining, with great editing which makes the most of the rich archival material to illustrate the point. Tango is a very emotional form of music, and it reaches the heart, which is precisely what the film does to the public. You'll leave the theater humming a tune!
