Adamo, un joven camionero, regresa a su ciudad natal en el sur de Italia después de la muerte de su madre. Conoce a Angela, una joven prostituta, para quien él representa la persona que finalmente podría brindarle el amor que ella busca, sin embargo, Adamo presenta una actitud un tanto reservada e indiferente. Adamo se deja arrastrar por eventos. Se ve envuelto en un asesinato y comienza a salir con otra mujer. Este melodrama sobre ilusiones perdidas y un amor imposible presenta una mirada existencialista del Mediterráneo, provee un trasfondo perfecto para esta historia narrada por su director Corsicato con un tono muy mordaz a lo Almodóvar. Un estilo irónico que llega a lo camp en la mezcla de melodrama, ciencia ficción, musical a lo Esther Williams y misticismo de tragedia griega. Iaia Forte, quien fuese el centro de la previa película de Corsicato, Libera, es como la Carmen Maura de las primeras películas de Almodóvar -- mujeres concebidas con tal fuerza que llevan la historia consigo, y su Angela es un espíritu que nunca se rinde. Al hablar de Corsicato, los referencias a Almodovar son obligatorias, porque la mezcla de humor, melodrama, musical, y tragedia con la que Corsicato construye sus peliculas son exactamente al estilo Almodovar, inclusive el uso de la musica y la abierta sensualidad. Este es un realizador tal vez cuyo estilo esta por definirse, pero sus dos primeras obras genuinamente lo definen como un talento a seguir. Definitivamente no es una copia de Almodóvar. |
Adamo, a young truckdriver, returns to his home town in Southern Italy after his mother's death. He meets Angela, a young hooker, to whom he represents a chance to experience the love she is looking for; however, Adamo's attitude is quite reserved and indifferent. Adamo is dragged by the wrong current of events. He becomes involved in a murder and starts seeing another woman. Adamo's behavior is too twisted for Angela, and she refuses to help him when he gets himself arrested. Angela's decision will have very surprising, unpredictable consequences. This melodrama about lost illusions and unrequited love which presents an existentialist view of the Mediterranean, providing a perfect background for this playfully directed story by Corsicato, in a style reminiscent of the early Almodóvar. He mixes camp, melodrama, science fiction, the mysticism of a Greek tragedy and (can you imagine?) even a little of an Esther Williams' musical. Iaia Forte, who was the axis of Corsicato's opera prima Libera (93), is like Carmen Maura in the early Almodóvar movies -- a woman of such strong characters that she drives the movie with her passion alone, and her Angela is a free spirit that refuses to be broken down. When talking about Corsicato, reference to Almodóvar is necessry because the blend of humor, melodrama, musical comedy and tragedy which Corsicato includes in his movies has the same essence as the Almodóvar style, even in his use of music and open sensuality. This is a filmmaker with a style in the making, but his first two features mark him as a genuine talent to follow. He is definitely not an Almodóvar clone.

Pappi Corsicato Nació en Nápoles en 1960. Estudió baile y coreografía en Nueva York y música en Italia. Su debut cinematográfico, Libera (93) le ganó numerosos premios en Italia y fue mostrada en varios festivales internacionales de cine.
