Chinese Chocolate

Jessie (Diana Peng) and Camille (Shirley Cui) are two Chinese girls who emigrate to Toronto; even though they take the same flight from Beijing they won't meet for a long time. Jessie is a beautiful student brought to the university by a Chinese professor called Li, who immediately seduces her eventhough he's married. She also finds out that her husband was planning to leave her for another woman. Camille finds refuge with an occidental friend called Tony whom she marries when she becomes pregnant. Nonetheless, Tony is unfaithful.

Jessie and Camille eventually meet each other and start a relationship totally new and unexpected for them.

This absorbent drama captures the fortunes and deceptions of two intelligent and talented women that after various frustrations seem to find true love. Miss Peng and Miss Cui are extraordinary in their respective roles. Their Lesbian relationship is treated with tact and good taste.

The sardonic vision of an occidental world where evrybody is on the lookout of something (money, sex, social position) and where practically everyone is used complements perfectly the vision of man as untrustworthy and exploitive. The extremely feminist message of the film is presented in a complex and controlled way. The directors, Qi Chang and Yan Cui, explore the emotional and sexual dilemmas of Chinese inmigrants with sensitivity and understanding.
